Really nice collection!
Few corrections:
1.
"14 Blackboard Jungle Dub" was relased in the year 1973.
2.
"Breakthrough" is recorded in Black Ark but its heavily overdubbed so the Black Ark connection is vivid.
3.
Same thing as in number 3 with "The Way It Is" album.
4.
"Smile Jamaica" is not the Black Ark one. This "Smile Jamaica" which is not made in Black Ark is totally a different take.
5.
Does "Trenchtown Rock Anthology" have 9 Black Ark tracks? I can only find 6:
Who Colt the Game
I Know A Place
Rainbow Country
Natural Mystic
Keep on Skanking
Turn Me Loose
6.
You must mean "Guideline" the single, not the album!!! This something that I cannot believe. If this is true could you play a sample to proove it?
7.
"Nyahbinghi Slaughters The Dragon" is fake. The added stuff has nothing to do with Lee Perry.
8.
"Jamaican Sessions '74-'79" this is abit suspicious thing... I have heard rare Black Ark tracks with Bob Marley but the ones you mention doesn't ring a bell. The ones I know are "Rat Race" and "Give Thanks & Praises"
9.
"Bootleg Series Vol.2" never heard about this. Samples, please?
Hi Sammy, First off, my bad "14 Dub Blackboard Jungle" was 1973.
2nd, "Breakthrough" is overdubbed but still easily recognizable as a Black Ark recording.
3. "The Way It Is" yes it's overdubbed again and not as easily recognized as above record but still has to be mentioned as Black Ark Material.
4. The re-issue of "Kaya" album by Bob Marley & The Wailers on Island records (CD released 2001) "Smile Jamaica" IS the Black Ark version it was also released as 45" Black Ark single which I have and is the A & B Side spliced together.
5. My bad again "Trenchtown Rock Anthology" does only contain 6 Black Ark tracks not Nine.
6. George Faith - "Guideline" L.P (Label states: Released on House Of Natty label 1981 Recorded 1978, names all 8 tracks and Produced by L.Perry at Black Ark) came in a plain white sleeve. Will post samples soon for your approval!
7. "Nyahbighi Slaughters The Dragon" - The Black Ark Players L.P (Sleeve cover is black with top left in white: "The Black Ark Players Presents" Bottom right in Yellow Green Red mixed letters: "Nyahbinghi Slaughters The Dragon" Cover back gives names of 12 tracks side A & B Produced by Scratch Perry for Black HAWK studio (? must be a spelling mistake?) Released 1992 for S.D.B Records Netherlands. Label on L.P record only gives track names) When i came across this I too thought it was a fake with the shoddy label and cover but when I heard it play I couldn't help but believe it. Scratch opens the album himself with weird talking sounding exactly like on "Return of Super Ape" album. The rhythym tracks are a mix from "Kung Fu Meets The Dragon" and "Return Of The Wax" but all have been heavily dubbed up with percussion and fading in/out of bass/drum/vocals ect, typical Black Ark sound from the later years circa.1978/79 and also this album is mentioned in David Katz Biography of Perry "People Funny Boy" but I do think this copy of mine is a Bootleg and not orignal. Will post sample soon.
8. Bob Marley - Jamaican Sessions 1975-1979. I found this collection online for download and is essentially just demos, outtakes, rehearsals ect from Tuff Gong studios. But it does contain a number of tracks recorded at the Black Ark "Babylon Feel Dis One" and "She Used To Call Me Dada" can be heard on You Tube (just search it) it also has Black Ark versions of "Rastaman Live Up" "Give Thanks & Praises", "Easy Skanking" and other well know and unreleased gems that definately need to be released officially.
9. Various Artists - Bootleg Series Vol.2 (Poor quality CD compilation of Punk Rock noise put out by some label called Thunderdump Records Bournemouth UK, inside cover states:
Track 7-
Johnny Rotten "Submission" written by Jones/Cook/Matlock/Rotten 1978 Producer Lee Perry (song sounds very much a Black Ark track but the sound quality here is awful)
Track 13-
Johnny Rotten "Not Enough" written by Lydon/Letts 1978 producer Lee Perry (As above but with even worse sound and cuts off dead after 2mins and a bit) I'd love to find better quality versions but will post if you really want them. These sessions are also mentioned in David Katz book mentioned above.
Anyway I've edited my mistakes on the blog and added new albums/singles I have collected since. Peace.
1.
Smile Jamaica was never released as a Black Art single. You know theres two takes of the same song right? Only one of the takes were recorded at the Black Ark.
2.
"House Of Natty" label is not Jamaican label... I can't believe the guy called "Lion Zion" and George Faith would've ever met. Hopefully you can proove me wrong.
3.
"Nyahbinghi Slaughters The Dragon": ..."Black Ark Players" sounds also pretty bogus to me... I'll be waiting the samples.
4. "Babylon Feel Dis One", "Rastaman Live Up" and "She Used To Call Me Dada" aren't recorded at the Black Ark since it has no Black Ark instruments to be recognized. Maybe vocals were recorded at the Black Ark... but I doubt it.
5.
"Perilous Times 1974-1999" Max Romeo recorded the vocals after the Black Ark period. Although some of the riddims are LP prod still not a fully Black Ark connection.
6.
"Mr Ska'Beena" Theres only one Black Ark tune (kinda) "Children Crying". Alton Ellis recorded the vocals after the Black Ark period.
(Pure Sorrow is not Black Ark!!!).
7.
"Wolf & Leopard" album has another Black Ark tune called "Here I Come" (famous Lee Perry phasing).
8.
"Straight Outta Trenchtown" has only one Black Ark tune called "Whats Yours".
9.
"East Of The River Nile" has only one tune which is 100% mixed by LP called "Up Full Living" and also theres two tunes recorded at the Black Ark called "Unfinished Melody" and "Memories Of The Ghetto".
10.
From the album called "Marijuana World Tour" there is not even a single Black Ark tune. Although the label claims this album to be recorded at the Black Ark... it just isn't true.
The Meditations; "Rastaman Prayer" B-side The Upsetter "Rasta Dub"
To my knowledge this tune was never released as a 7" inch. This tune is only found from the "MESSAGE FROM THE MEDITATIONS" album.
Clive Hylton; "From Creation" B-side The Upsetters "Creation Dub"
To my knowledge this tune was never released as a 7" inch. This can be found from original dubplate and later re-issued as 12" inch.
Augustus Pablo; "Silent Satta" B-side Jah Butty "Traditional Satta"
You must mean the 12" inch. This tune was never released as a 7" inch.
The Cimarons; "Paul Bogle" B-side The Upsetter "Paul Bogle Dub"
You must mean the 12" inch. This tune was never released as a 7" inch.
Big Youth; "23rd Psalm" B-side The Upsetter "23rd Dub"
This is actually by "Time Unlimited". You can notice there isn't any toasting.
The Heptones; "Crying Over You" B-side Jah Lion "Crying Over You Version"
Maybe this can be found from some "Hep Hep" re-issue but originally the Jah Lion's cut was found from "Heptones Disco Dub" 12" inch.
Lacksley Castell; "Jah Love Is Sweeter" B-side The Upsetter "Jah Dub"
This one is produced by Pauline Morrison. From "Black Ark In Dub" there can be found song called "Jah" but it doesn't have any LP connection instead its King Tubby at the controls.
I would like this site better if there wasn't any fiction in this site.
I would like to hear some sound clips of Nyabinghi Slaughters The Dragon and see label scans or pics of the cover.
